- 0° Aries is fixed at the left. Longitude increases counter-clockwise: Aries left, Cancer at the bottom, Libra right, Capricorn at the top. The wheel never rotates, so two charts are directly comparable.
- The gold dot is the datum. Each graha’s exact sidereal longitude is the gold dot on the inner circle. Its two-letter label may be nudged along the ring so a conjunction stays readable — the thin leader line ties the label back to its true point.
- ᴿ means retrograde. Apparent backward motion, computed from the change in longitude either side of the instant, not looked up in a table.
- The dashed diameter is the node axis. Rahu and Ketu are always exactly opposite; that line is the real Rahu–Ketu axis for this frame.
- The gold ray is the ascendant. It only appears when you give both a clock time and a place — the lagna genuinely needs latitude. No place, no ray. We do not guess it.
- One ephemeris, one ayanamsa. The longitudes on this wheel are the longitudes your Kundli, your dasha dates, and every guna in a matching report are computed from. There is no second, prettier dataset for the pictures.
- Positions only. This endpoint returns no interpretation at all — sidereal longitude, tropical longitude, ecliptic latitude, distance, retrogression, rasi, nakshatra, pada. Meaning is added later, in words, by people and prose.
- Sidereal and tropical, side by side. Turn on the drift and a second dashed ring appears, offset by this frame’s own ayanamsa. That offset is measured, not asserted — and neither zodiac is “wrong”: they measure from different origins.
- Clamped, never extrapolated. DE421 covers 1899-08-01 to 2053-10-01. Ask for a date outside it and we say so and clamp to the edge, rather than quietly inventing a sky.

Why do the positions differ from my horoscope app?
Almost certainly because that app uses the tropical zodiac and this wheel uses the sidereal one. Turn on “See the drift” and you can see the exact gap — about 24° right now — measured from this frame's own ayanamsa. Neither is a mistake: tropical measures from the equinox point, sidereal from the fixed stars. Jyotish is sidereal, so Somaloka is sidereal, and we label the school on every page.
Where do the positions come from?
NASA JPL's DE421 ephemeris, read through Skyfield, converted to sidereal longitude with the Lahiri (True Chitra Paksha) ayanamsa for the instant shown. The same code path serves the Kundli calculator, so the wheel and the chart agree to a small fraction of an arcminute — that agreement is asserted by an automated test, not assumed. Why only nine bodies — where are Uranus, Neptune and Pluto?
Because Parashari Jyotish reads seven grahas plus the two lunar nodes, and that is the school we committed to. Adding the outer planets would mean adopting a different tradition's rules for dignity, aspects, and lordship. We would rather be one clear school than an unlabelled blend.
Why is there no ascendant on the wheel?
The ascendant depends on where you were standing and the exact clock time — it moves roughly one degree every four minutes. Give the form a time and a place and the gold ray appears. Leave either out and we omit it rather than draw something we cannot compute.
Is the time slider showing real motion?
Yes. Each step is a genuine three-day frame computed by the same engine, fetched once for the whole ±6-month window. Watch Saturn barely move while the Moon laps the whole wheel — that difference is the actual mechanics of the sky, not an animation curve.
